Mural Project with FUSE

- April 27, 2017 - May 18, 2017 -

As a part of a 3 week-long project GRL will be working alongside high schools students from the Nueva Ventura program in District 11 to design and paint a mural to be displayed at the Bemis School of Art. The project, which is facilitated by the Fine Arts Center (FAC), will be lead by the graffiti artist, FUSE. The students will learn about the history of graffiti art, as well as some tools and techniques which will give a better sense of how to work in the medium.Though a resident of Colorado Springs for more than 20 years, FUSE grew up in Los Angeles and started spraying graffiti as a young boy. Eventually, he helped form one of the largest and most influential graffiti crews in the world, AWR/MSK. Through his connections to globally renowned graffiti artists El Mac and Retna, Fuse was instrumental in bringing Aerosol Exalted to the FAC.

We are so thrilled about the collaboration -- we got a chance to speak to Tara Thomas, the Executive Director of Education at FAC who organized the project. She explained that this particular project is especially significant for FAC as it marks the end of a 30 year collaboration between the museum and Nueva Ventura, a program which specifies in the aid and education for students with emotional disabilities.
